What is phishing?

Phishing is a deceptive baiting technique designed to trick the user into providing personal and confidential information. All phishing come from email. They fool you by pretending to be from a legitimate party. When you responded to the mail, you will be direct to a counterfeit web site which look exactly the same as the legitimate one. Other danger pose when you responded to the scam email will result in spyware, Trojans, keyloggers, and other malicious programs to be install on your computer. A variety of data and information can be collected by the phishers and the most common one is your bank, paypal and ebay accountion information, like user ID and password.

Detecting Phishing

You can detect or suspect phishing through a combination of common sense and aware of the threats, and a number of sign including:

  • Message that threat to restrict or close your account if you did not respond
  • Grammatical errors
  • Many spelling mistakes in the messages
  • Form that require you to fill in user ID and password, card credit or bank number
  • Browser's address field is suspect
  • Hyperlink's text does not match the text that displayed when you move your mouse over it
  • Ask you to change password
  • Sender email address cannot be verified or use free email address
