As Spam becomes more and more menace, software developers begin to develop new and more effective Spam Filter program, the aim to eliminate 100% of Spam. These products to fight spam have many names and many different types available. Most spam filters work only on specific email client, like Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express while others are able to work regardless of email software.

Type of filters

There is 3 types of Spam Filter:

• Online Spam Filter
• Server based Spam Filter
• PC based Spam Filter

Whatever types of Spam Filter you use, they operate on the basis of what are called rules. Spam Filter will examine your incoming e-mail and match it against a set of pre-defined rules, either set by the software or you or can be both. If the incoming e-mail does no match or agree those rules then it’s will either delete, put into another folder (junk folder) or quarantine.

Today, most of e-mail programs come with basic Spam Filter that allows you to block e-mail from specific addresses while others allows you to set rules, for example thunderbird from mozilla.

Although there is online and server type Spam Filter but most of them in the market are the install type - need to install in your computer
